FAQs

About Family Mediation

What issues can a Family Mediation Service help with?

Our Mediation Service covers child arrangements, financial matters, property division, separation agreements, and communication issues between family members.

Is family mediation legally binding?

Mediation itself is not legally binding, but agreements can be made legally binding by being turned into a consent order with a solicitor.

Do both people have to agree to mediation?

Yes, mediation is voluntary. However, attending an initial MIAM is often required before applying to court, unless an exemption applies.

How long does the family mediation process last?

Every case is unique; however, by way of example, many families reach an agreement in 2–4 mediation sessions, which is much faster than the court process.

Should we get mediation even though it's hard to communicate?!

Yes. Our experienced mediators conduct professional conversations that allow both parties to feel heard and ensure respectful dialogue.

Is everything discussed in mediation confidential?

Yes. Family mediation is confidential, with only limited legal exceptions.

Can mediation work for high-conflict situations?

Often yes. Our Family Mediation Service is aimed at removing animosity and directing conversations towards sensible decisions.
